Like the state and nation overall, men have a lower life expectancy than women in Carroll County. Men’s overall life expectancy is 5.19 years less than women in Carroll County, as compared to 5 and 5.09 in the Commonwealth and U.S. overall1. There are several factors affecting the disparity between males and females. Some of the more obvious include the fact that men tend to take bigger risks than women resulting in higher accident rates. Additionally, men are also more likely to have jobs in riskier occupations such as military combat, firefighting, and working at construction sites where injury and accidents are more prevalent.
