Years of potential life lost, (YPLL), represent the years of life lost where death occurs before the age of 75, the average annual age of death for Americans. Carroll County has a very high YPLL that is increasing, as compared with state and top performers in the nation.

For those under the age of 75, the leading cause of death remains malignant neoplasms, 176.9 per 100k, followed closely by heart disease at 146.9 per 100k and accidents at 68.7 per 100k7.
