SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED INFECTIONS

Owen County has maintained a significantly lower rate of sexually transmitted infections compared to the state overall with the incidence of Chlamydia peaking above the state rate in 2018, but on average is significantly lower, with an eight-year trend of 191.1 as compared to the state average at 376.1 per 100k persons25. Gonorrhea incidence also remains significantly lower than the state rate averaging 48.4 cases per 100k 25 .

Approximately 40.4% of Kentucky high school students have had at least one sexual encounter26. Of those, 7.2% had sexual intercourse with four or more persons and 30.7% are currently sexually active26.
