TOBACCO USE ADOLESCENTS

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that 1 in 4 High School Students used some form of tobacco product in 2022 with the greatest percentage of those using e-cigarettes in the past 30 days at 14.1%38.

Today, girls are more likely to report using of some tobacco product in the last 30 days than boys, a shift since 2018 when more boys reported use than girls, with E-Cigarettes representing 15.4% of tobacco use in girls38. The same survey found that similar findings in middle school students reporting use of some form of tobacco product with most of these using e-cigarettes (4.1%)38.

Assuming similar applied ratios of tobacco use in the youth population as compared with national averages, middle and high school use could be as high as 1 in 8 or as low as 1 in 14 for middle school students and as high as 1 in 2 or as low as 1 in 4 for high school students in Pendleton County.
