According to the 2020 ACS 5-year estimates, Pendleton County has a higher than average percentage, 70.8%, of owner-occupied housing as compared with the Commonwealth and national averages at 67.6% and 64.4% respectively5.

Another 29.2% of homes in Pendleton County are occupied by renters from both commercial and private owners which slightly less than state and national rates6.

Vacant housing has a direct impact on the physical surroundings in a neighborhood. Research has shown that vacant lots/housing that has been remediated had positive effects on health including lowering heart rate and reducing violence.
