Equipment

Poorly maintained or designed equipment, can create opportunities for injuries. Check for these hazards before allowing your child to enter:

  • Head entrapment spaces
  • Unprotected elevated areas
  • Sharp points and edges
  • Broken equipment

Environment

Playground environment is just as important for safety as the equipment itself. Look for these hazards:

  • Overcrowding
  • Ground surface with less than 12 inches of wood chips, mulch, sand or pea gravel, or mats made of safety-tested rubber or rubber like materials
  • Too much sun exposure
  • Improperly supervised children
  • Tripping hazards
