Walkability Assessment
What is a walkability assessment?
Walkability refers to how friendly an area is for walking. It examines such factors as street network design, the density of development, and the diversity of land use. Walkability is a key factor in providing and promoting exercise opportunities that directly impact individual health.
The most current index, published in 2021 by the Environmental Protection Agency, indicates our counties fall into the category of least walkable with some areas below average. Even so, we are rich in a multitude of exercise-favorable options that urban areas may lack.
To address this issue, we have compiled a report for all four of our communities that discusses our index, benefits of exercise, and places for exercise in each of our four counties.

Visit the EPA website for more information on the index and how it is compiled.
