Board of Health
What is a board of health?
A board of health (BOH) is a statutorily mandated entity established for public health policy making and governance. At Three Rivers we have five boards, one local BOH in each county and one district BOH. The functions and roles of each of the boards are divided into two categories, governing and non-governing.
A governing board is one that oversees and assures the health department is providing services that meets the needs of the community it serves. A non-governing board is responsible for the public health tax, maintenance and upkeep of the agency building, and nominating members to sit on the governing board .
Each of our local boards nominates two members to sit on the eight-member district board of health. Those members are highlighted in bold text below in the list of local board members.
