Equipment
Poorly maintained or designed equipment, can create opportunities for injuries. Check for these hazards before allowing your child to enter:
- Head entrapment spaces
- Unprotected elevated areas
- Sharp points and edges
- Broken equipment

Environment

Playground environment is just as important for safety as the equipment itself. Look for these hazards:
- Overcrowding
- Ground surface with less than 12 inches of wood chips, mulch, sand or pea gravel, or mats made of safety-tested rubber or rubber like materials
- Too much sun exposure
- Improperly supervised children
- Tripping hazards
